In an effort to get over his recent (naked) breakup with actress Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) decides to get away from it all and books a trip to Hawaii. Upon arriving at the hotel, he discovers to his horror that she is staying there too – with her new boyfriend, rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). Though it is nominally a fun romantic comedy, the film does an excellent job of portraying the process of dealing with breakup. None of the characters are inherently awful or entirely virtuous – even Sarah has her sympathetic side. Aldous Snow, the easy-going, flaky rock star, got his own spin-off movie in Get Him to the Greek.
