Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin) is a down-on-his-luck movie producer, who has decided to pool all his (meager) resources and finance a pet project. The studio tells him that they’ll only distribute the film if he gets Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy) to star in it – an airheaded, obnoxious, mentally unstable celebrity who refuses to participate in the film. Not to be undone, Bowfinger proceeds to shoot the film around Ramsey (unbeknownst to Ramsey, who interprets the production as part of an alien invasion), with the help of Jiff (Eddie Murphy), a dimwitted and affable Ramsey lookalike. Written by Steve Martin and directed by Frank Oz (aka Miss Piggy), the film is viewed by many as a spoof of Hollywood, celebrities and even Scientology.
