John Nash (Russell Crowe) is a socially awkward mathematical genius. His closest (and possibly only) friend is his college roommate Charles (Paul Bettany). He is incredibly successful professionally, with an amazing ability to spot patterns in seemingly random jumbles of numbers. He is soon recruited by Parcher (Ed Harris), an agent for the US Department of Defense, for a cryptography project – finding codes and ciphers hidden by the Soviets in magazines and newspapers. At the same time, he embarks on a romance with a student, Alicia (Jennifer Connelly), and it seems that his life is all set. But soon his assignment from Parcher is getting him into trouble, the Soviets are following him and everything takes a turn for the nightmarish. This film won four Academy Awards – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay – and was nominated for four more.
